I enjoyed "The Last Samurai", but ...Huw,

I enjoyed "The Last Samurai", but in the end thought it was "brilliant but extremely flawed". I then tried "Lightning Rods" and gave up after a few chapters. Very curious.

MikeMike C.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11279776665185060446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6096844366367766843.post-74906667497898466872013-06-12T23:06:34.003+01:002013-06-12T23:06:34.003+01:00Mike,

Worth it just for the Goldberg Variations though.

But I read all his SF novels and thought him a master of the genre.

Huw

PS What did you think of The Last Samurai?Huwhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06346671593949866026noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6096844366367766843.post-25784769091831910932013-06-11T14:52:11.583+01:002013-06-11T14:52:11.583+01:00Paul,

Apparently, he had hoped to see his last book on the bookshop shelves -- weirdly, it deals with the last days of a terminally-ill man, but was started before he knew that was his own condition -- but it wasn't to be.

MikeMike C.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11279776665185060446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6096844366367766843.post-47306870310245000882013-06-11T14:36:19.322+01:002013-06-11T14:36:19.322+01:00Had heard he was sick but hoped he would survive. ...Had heard he was sick but hoped he would survive.
